The Yemen Polling Center (YPC) is an independent non-governmental organization, which was established in 2004 and received its registration certificate No. 147 from the Ministry of Social Affairs & Labor in December 2005.
It is the first and only polling center in Yemen, providing the highest quality in survey research. YPC designs and performs opinion polls, scientific research studies, and surveys that serve the research needs of national and international institutions and non-profit organizations, corporations, government agencies, and professional associations.
YPC conducts public attitude surveys, focus groups, demographic studies and market research for development projects, publications, business groups, banks etc. YPC was founded by a group of dedicated professional journalists, academics, researchers and volunteers, who are ambitious to bring about progressive change in Yemen.
YPC has a dedicated, well-experienced and qualified team comprising 13 full-time staff members. In addition, the Center cooperates with dozens of experts, consultants and university professors when need be.
Out of the over 500 field researchers we trained and examined, YPC had selected about 240 enumerators throughout the country for its field research, fifty per cent of whom are female. YPC is proud to have the most professional field staff in Yemen, all of whom have been carefully selected through precise tests and they have broad experience in field work as well as in the nature of their respective Yemeni governorates.
Our experience as well as our personnel and technical resources allow us to conduct surveys of any size and of any group, while maintaining data quality and providing cost effective studies.
YPC has wide experience in implementing internationally-funded projects. It has cooperated and so far conducted dozens of projects with several international institutions including the World Bank, Gallup, the Research Institute – London, Pan Arab Research Center (PARC), The Media Consultancies Company Danicom, Center for International Enterprises (CIPE), and the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), National Endowment for Democracy (NED), University of Michigan, Charney Research, to name but a few.
In addition to numerous public opinion surveys and research projects successfully carried out, YPC has implemented a good number of economic surveys and in-depth studies since its inception in 2005, covering all governorates in Yemen.
The number of surveyed people has now reached almost 55,000 Yemeni citizens by face-to-face interviews.
Mission
Our mission is to set the highest professional standards for public opinion and market research as well as to advance the understanding among citizens, the media and general public, of how polls can positively bring about a positive change in all aspects of life.
Since its inception, YPC has conducted dozens of surveys, seminars, workshops and press conferences in Sana'a and other Yemeni provinces to promote better understanding of public opinion polls and research surveys.
The center also promotes excellence in the opinion and marketing research industry by providing clients with a variety of opportunities for advancing and expanding their businesses and achieving their objectives.
Credibility
The Yemen Polling Center (YPC) takes pride in its wide credibility among the state-run, partisan and independent media outlets as well as among Yemeni and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and donor community.
YPC also enjoys the confidence of various significant Arabic and international firms and institutions concerned with public research and communication studies. It is the first and only organization to implement public polls and field studies in Yemen.
We work towards protecting the integrity of the marketing and opinion research process by improving respondent cooperation, improving the research process, and positively impacting privacy and other related legislations.
Our main concern is to deliver quality survey data which are primary to our success, to the success of our clients, and to the making of sound judgments.
We highly appreciate this credibility and confidence and strive hard to keep it up in order to grow and flourish.
Training and Qualifying:
YPC has conducted a good number of polls so far presenting accurate data and scientific results for the first time in Yemen. The results of YPC-owned polls are accessible to both the government and the public alike.
Prior to the implementation of any of our projects, we perform several rounds of in-house training and skill-enhancement workshops for the YPC staff and field interviewers. Such steps solidify the scientific and technical basis of the personnel to guarantee accuracy and efficiency.
We train our staff and field workers on international polling standards following the scientific procedures of conducting accurate quantitative research.
The intensive and professional polls would not have been as successful without the expertise received from international and regional experts, who have worked with YPC in an institutional capacity-building program.
Out of the over 500 field researchers we trained and examined, YPC had selected about 260 interviewers throughout the country for its field research, fifty per cent of whom are female. YPC is proud to have the most professional field staff in Yemen, who has been carefully selected through precise tests and who have a broad experience in field work as well as in the nature of their respective Yemeni governorates.
Through its wide distribution of field researchers, YPC manages to reach many isolated villages and non-accessible countryside areas, which – given the rugged Yemeni topography – are often neglected by development projects and/or media coverage.
Despite limited resources, our strong will and determination to make a difference have so far resulted in 40 polls, 5 field studies and 35 focus group sessions and over 200 in-depth interviews. More than 15 seminars and 20 training courses were implemented to enhance the skills of our team and researchers nationwide.
The wide scope of our survey research capabilities, both personnel and technical, allows us to meet any data collection need, to maintain total control over the quality of our work, and to assemble efficient and effective teams for every project.
Aiming at meeting the highest standards in quantitative research, YPC always conducts concentrated courses before the implementation of any questionnaire by our certified field researchers and supervisors. Methods of administering a new questionnaire and professional ways of holding meetings are thoroughly discussed. In addition, we provide our researchers with fieldwork manuals, which include all research requirements, directions and a detailed explanation of dealing with the sample and the questionnaire at hand.
Market Research Unit
Aiming to fill the existing gap in Yemen's market research and to fund its different non-profit projects, the center has recently introduced a new unit comprising specialists in market research.
The new-established unit will provide, among several others, a wider range of market research studies and surveys including marketing analysis, omnibus research, mystery shopping, consumer research, customer satisfaction and marketing analysis.
